Solar panels could be installed in the spaces between tracks in world first

Swiss start-up Sun-Ways is set to install removable solar panels on railway tracks near Buttes train station in Switzerland. The specially designed train, developed by Scheuchzer, will travel along the rails, unfurling the panels, which are pre-assembled at a Swiss factory. The electricity generated by the photovoltaic system will be fed into the power grid rather than railway operations. Sun-Ways has patented the removable system, which uses a mechanical system for installation, making it easier to clear tracks for maintenance. However, the International Union of Railways has raised concerns about micro-cracks, fires, and reflections. Sun-Ways says its panels are more resistant than conventional ones and is working on anti-reflection filters, sensors, and brush attachments to address these issues. The company is also developing a system to melt frozen precipitation on the panels.
