Plastic pollution is a major problem that is harming our oceans and marine life. Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in the ocean, where it can take hundreds of years to decompose. This plastic can entangle and kill marine animals, and it can also break down into small pieces that are ingested by fish and other marine life.
There are a number of things that we can do to reduce plastic pollution, such as using reusable bags and straws, recycling plastic whenever possible, and avoiding single-use plastics. But what about the plastic that is already in the ocean?
One organization that is working to address this problem is the Ocean Legacy Foundation. Ocean Legacy is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to cleaning up the ocean and preventing plastic pollution. In 2017, Ocean Legacy launched a new initiative called Ocean Legacy Plastic, which is a program that turns ocean-bound plastic into high-quality plastic pellets.
Ocean Legacy Plastic is made from 100% post-consumer plastic that is recovered from ocean and beach cleanups. The plastic is cleaned, sorted, and then processed into pellets that can be used to make a variety of products, such as furniture, construction materials, and packaging.
Ocean Legacy Plastic is a great example of how we can turn a problem into a solution. By recycling ocean-bound plastic, we can help to reduce plastic pollution and protect our oceans.
